💪 Goalkeeper exercises in Learn Handball

"Do you have goalkeeper drills?" This is the question we have been asked the most times in Learn Handball. Now we can finally answer yes!

Competence in goalkeeping training is in short supply in children's handball. That is why we have made goalkeeper exercises "everyone" can carry out - without prior knowledge of goalkeeper training. At some age levels, there are now up to 30 different goalkeeper exercises to choose from.

Rotation in the start
Children over
6-10 years, we want as many people as possible should dare to dip into the goal to try his hand as goalkeepers. The use of a soft ball is a prerequisite for this to succeed. As coaches, we must facilitate rotation, and not be tempted to put the best in goal. Most likely it will result in a few more setbacks, but our job as child trainers is to stimulate the children through a wide range of movements and positions.

Important role
From
11 years of age, we also want rotation, but the trend here is clear. There are often only a few who want to be goalkeepers. These must be taken care of, by triggering the desire and interest to reach the goal. The goalkeeper's role is becoming more and more important in handball. Therefore, spend time on goalkeeping training, and explain to the children why.

On the contrary, we also see that more people absolutely do not want to finish. I have to say that I understand that very well, because some of the players start shooting incredibly hard. We hope that some of our exercises will lead to more people daring to try. It is possible to train goalkeeper exercises even if you do not want to finish in a match.

Implementation
A
major challenge with goalkeeper training is that outfield players unfortunately did not hit where we want during your workout. Therefore, we encourage you to do a good part of the goalkeeper training outside the team training, or on the opposite side.
Many of our exercises can be done regardless of age, which means that the club can gather goalkeepers from several age groups at the same time, and thus increase the quality of the training.

Technique training, eye-hand / foot coordination, body control and movement are key topics in goalkeeping training. In many of our exercises we train just this.

Where are the exercises?
You will find all the exercises under focus areas in the library.

We wish you good luck!
